About the Secret Garden

Walk through the ornate metal gate, to a piece of paradise, tucked away in a beautiful pocket of Malborough surrounded by thatched cottages and just off a quiet pedestrian lane. The Secret Garden is full of character, built in traditional Devon stone and part of a Grade II Listed chocolate box cottage.

The fabulously bright fabrics and paint colours inside mimic the vibrant palette that runs through the garden; Fuchsia, Gladioli, purple Foxgloves, Honeysuckle, Clematis, Bluebells to name but a few colourful, glorious plants. The garden is south-facing and gets the sun throughout the day, the rattan bistro set can be positioned for basking in the sun or in the shade of the eucalyptus tree. The strong WiFi is perfect for those wanting to get some work done or for streaming a romantic film. Sunloungers and BBQ are stored in the shed for guests to use at their leisure.

Wake up in the morning and open the plantation shutters. Enjoy the birdsong in the garden whilst drinking your morning coffee (or tea!) from the comfort of the double bed with gorgeous padded headboard, covered in spectacular Matthew Williamson fabric. Rest your cup on the oak bedside shelves and take advantage of the skylight for stargazing at night. There are roller blinds for those that prefer to sleep in blackout or they can be left open for early risers to watch the sunrise. Relax into the high wingbacked sumptuous velvet sofa with a good book under the pendant lighting.

Although the space is compact, the kitchen is well equipped, with granite worktops and splashback, dual electric hob, Nespresso coffee machine and Dualit kettle and toaster, integrated fridge-freezer, microwave and mini grill. John Lewis crockery, Dartington Cutlery and a variety of cut glassware. Breakfast bar, with bar stools, USBC/USB Sockets and LG Smart TV.

Inside there is a jungle theme, from paintings of exotic animals to climbing monkeys on the beam, animal clothes hooks, safari-themed crockery, and much more.

The en suite with walk-in dual head shower, mandarin stone tiles, bespoke bathroom storage units, towel rail, heated mirror and underfloor heating.

Other things to note
Please note The Secret Garden is compact and bijou. There is only 9” either side of the double bed, so manoeuvering can be tricky.

Reviews

An absolutely fantastic quaint hideaway. Superbly decorated and equipped to the highest of standards. Yes, it's small but that's what makes it even cosier. It was a perfect base for us to walk the coastal path. Freya was a great host too!

My partner and I were walking the South West Coastal Path when a storm blew in and we needed somewhere to wait it out. Freya'a Secret Garden was the perfect place; comfortable and cosy with everything you need and a great shower (most important for soggy multi-day hikers!). Freya was super accommodating, even letting us check in early so we could get out of the rain. The village has a nice local pub and is close to lots of lovely beaches and the town of Salcombe.

We had a great stay at the Secret Garden. It was peaceful and just what we were expecting. Looks just like the photos and was very clean. Just note if you’re bringing more than 1 dog it’s £10 extra which we didn’t know until after booking but no problem to pay the extra doggies loved the secure garden. Thanks again Freya.
