About N° 1 The Salcombe

Nº1 The Salcombe is a charming ground floor apartment. The glass fronted property allows maximum light in, and with the communal swimming pool literally outside the door and the harbour just beyond, the sunlight bounces and sparkles off it joyfully in the summer.

The Space

With tongue and groove wood panelling in the living room, freshly painted in a satisfying duck egg blue called Dix Blue by Farrow & Ball, you’re off to a good start. The living room is kitted out beautifully with a luxurious sofa that commands you to lounge on it plus a smart wingback chair, and the rooms are all dressed in deft and tasteful touches from the occasional furniture – with chic nests of tables - to modish mirrors, lamps, and sideboards.

Oak laminate flooring runs throughout the living area with fitted carpets through to the bedrooms. The kitchen to the rear has all the appliances you could wish for – oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, under counter fridge/freezer and a dining table seating four divides up the room.

Nº1 has two bedrooms – one double and one twin, with the Farrow & Ball paint continuing through these rooms giving the apartment a lovely soothing ambience.

You may be surprised to find there are two bathrooms - one with bath and over bath shower, basin, and loo, with a heated towel rail over the bath, the second bathroom having a shower, basin, and loo.

‘The Salcombe’ building has been through many changes over the centuries. It was originally The York Hotel, built in the 1890s, which then became the Salcombe Hotel, before being developed into apartments in the 1980s. In an even earlier incarnation, this area was famous for being one of the main shipbuilding areas for the beautiful clipper schooners, the ‘Salcombe fruiters’ that played a leading part in the fruit trade for forty years. You can look out of the window and imagine how things were in the ‘Bonkers’ (actual name) shipyard that occupied the same spot from 1826-1868.

Get your deckchairs or sun loungers out and soak up the sunshine right outside your apartment and take a dip in the pool that is merely feet away. The town is literally on your doorstep here, a moment’s walk away, with the gorgeous Salcombe harbour extending in front of you. You truly have the best of both worlds here.

Guest access

There is free on-site parking for one car per apartment, free Wi-Fi, a communal outdoor heated swimming pool and large garden, and a private entrance.

This apartment is very accessible for people with limited mobility, as it is all on one level.

Other things to note

There is also one mooring per apartment on a private pontoon for a dinghy, with overall length (including out-board) of 5m – by prior arrangement only. You can also find a restaurant/wine bar within the building.
